The Global Sanctions Team (“GS”) is part of the Financial Crimes Team within Block Compliance. GS executes Block’s Global Sanctions Program to effectively manage and mitigate economic sanctions risks across the organization.
As a Global Sanctions Program Manager, you will play a critical role in supporting Block’s Global Sanctions Program through risk assessment and issue management activities. You will work cross-functionally to evaluate sanctions risks, analyze data, and ensure issues are documented, tracked, and remediated in alignment with regulatory expectations and enterprise standards. In particular, you will be responsible for overseeing the quality and consistency of sanctions risk assessments and issue management processes, while partnering with stakeholders to strengthen Block’s overall sanctions compliance framework. Other responsibilities include:
- Provide subject matter expertise on sanctions compliance, advising on methodology, processes, questionnaires, and related documentation.
- Support sanctions risk assessment activities by helping design, capture, and review sanctions controls and inherent risk factors across enterprise, brand, and local levels.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate mapping of sanctions controls, risks, and issues to regulatory and internal frameworks.
- Review and challenge sanctions-related risk assessments, rationales, and narratives to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and industry standards.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and data teams to validate the accuracy, completeness, and usability of sanctions-related information.
- Identify, document, and track sanctions-related action items, issues, and follow-ups to strengthen the overall compliance framework.
- Ownership and remediation of self-identified sanctions issues
- Review and ensure consistency of sanctions issue and action plan documentation across the organization, aligning with enterprise-wide compliance and regulatory expectations.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to manage the lifecycle of sanctions-related issues, including evidence gathering, action plan oversight, and closure documentation.
- Contribute subject matter expertise to strengthen enterprise-wide Issue Management programs, ensuring sanctions processes and documentation meet industry and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
You have:
- 5 or more years of fintech, banking or government experience in sanctions compliance in an Advisory capacity.
- Thorough understanding of U.S. and non-U.S. sanctions rules and regulations.
- Hands-on experience conducting sanctions risk assessments, including identifying inherent risks, assessing controls, and documenting outcomes.
- Ability to analyze complex data sets and risk indicators to evaluate sanctions exposure across enterprise, business unit, and local levels.
- Familiarity with mapping sanctions controls to risk events, regulatory expectations, and enterprise risk frameworks.
- Experience reviewing and documenting controls, issues, and action plans within enterprise risk management or compliance systems.
- Proven ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure consistency and alignment with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Familiarity with issue management tools (e.g., Protecht or similar systems) and the ability to track, monitor, and report on remediation activities.
- Experience developing end to end compliance risk management programs.
